The PocTell® Blood Gas Test Cartridge use the electrochemical method to measure the concentration of Na+, K+, iCa2+, Cl-, pH, and pCO2 in whole blood samples. The electrochemical sensor on the cartridge consists of a silver/silver chloride electrode with its ion-selective reagent membrane. When the sample is added to the cartridge and comes into contact with the reagent membrane, the ions in the sample can selectively exchange ions with the reagent membrane, which changes the membrane potential due to the difference in ion concentration. The relationship between the concentration and the potential value is obtained based on the conversion of the Nernst equation
