Electrolyte Test Cartridge

PocTell^® Electrolyte test cartridges are intended for the in vitro quantitative measurement of sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), ionized calcium (iCa2+), ionized magnesium (iMg2+), and chloridion (Cl-) in human whole blood.

It allows simultaneous detection of sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), ionized calcium (iCa2+), ionized magnesium (iMg2+), and chloridion (Cl-), and is mainly used as a clinical auxiliary diagnosis for electrolyte disorders. It can also be used to assess the changes of acids and bases in human blood samples.

Common methods used clinically or in the laboratory: include ion selective electrode (ISE), ion chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, colorimetry, enzymatic method, etc. Among them, ISE is a technique with easy operation, rapid detection, and high accuracy.

The ISE method is adopted in PocTell^® Electrolyte test cartridge to quantitatively detect the concentrations of sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), ionized calcium (iCa2+), ionized magnesium (iMg2+), and chloridion (Cl-) in the whole blood samples. The electrochemical sensor on the test cartridge is composed of a silver/silver chloride electrode and its ion-selective reagent membrane. When test samples are added into the test cartridge and contact the reagent membrane, the measured ions in the sample can selectively exchange with the membrane ions, changing the ion concentration in the test sample, and thus the membrane potential is altered. The relationship between the concentration and potential value is calculated based on the Nernst equation
