Type of HCV Detection Kit
Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
Involves the formation of a complex through an antigen-antibody reaction. The addition of an enzyme label allows for color development and determination of the result. This method is widely used for HCV core antigen and antibody detection, offering ease of use, low cost, and suitability for large-scale screening.
Chemiluminescence assay
Chemiluminescent antibodies are labeled with chemiluminescent substances, allowing for quantitative detection of antigen/antibody concentrations based on luminescence intensity. This method offers high sensitivity and stability, making it suitable for automated testing.
Colloidal gold assay
Colloidal gold particles bind to antigen/antibody concentrations, and the resulting color is visualized. This rapid assay, such as the 1-dose/pack HCV Antibody Detection Kit (Colloidal Gold), provides results within 15 minutes.
Nucleic Acid Amplification (PCR)-Fluorescence Assay
Viral RNA is amplified through PCR and quantitatively detected using a fluorescent probe. This assay is used to confirm HCV infection and monitor treatment response, as exemplified by the kit with National Medical Products Administration Approval No. S20030091 (10 doses/box).
Applications of HCV Detection Kit
Clinical Diagnosis
Antibody detection kits are used for preliminary screening of high-risk individuals (such as those with a history of blood transfusion or intravenous drug use). Nucleic acid detection kits confirm active infection and exclude previous infection or false positives.
Blood Safety
Core antigen detection kits are used for screening in blood centers and the blood products industry, shortening the window period and reducing the risk of transfusion transmission.
Disease Monitoring
Regular HCV RNA levels are tested to monitor for recurrence or drug resistance and to guide treatment adjustments.
Allow the test, specimen and/or controls to reach room temperature 15-30ºC (59-86ºF) prior to testing.
Bring the pouch to room temperature before opening it. Remove the test cassette from the sealed pouch and use it as soon as possible.
Wait for the colored line(s) to appear. Read results at 15 minutes. Do not interpret the result after 20 minutes.
For whole blood specimens: Hold the dropper vertically and transfer 1 drop of whole blood(approximately 35μl) to the specimen well(S) of the test device, then add 2 drops of buffer (approximately 70μl) and start the timer. See illustration below.
For serum or plasma specimen: Hold the dropper vertically and transfer 3 drops of serum or plasma (approximately 100μl) to the specimen well(S) of the test device, then start the timer, and then begin timing Place the test cassette on a clean and level surface.
Interpretation of Results
Negative
Only one colored band appears on the control (C) region. No apparent band on the test (T) region.
Positive
In addition to a pink coloured control (C) band, a distinct pink colored band will also appear in the test (T) region.
Invalid
A total absence of color in both regions is an indication of procedure error and/or the test reagent has deteriorated.
